Mason "mounts" up problems for Gerrard
Kepa keeps yet another clean-sheet in away game victory against Aston Villa to seal 3 points. Mount scores a double.
Getting used to that winning feeling finally (all over again). Well it is indeed a Chelsea thing. Redemption is what the team is very much capable of and now one can say the team has redeemed itself for they have proved to be efficient with a streak of wins across all competitions. This game in particular was not an easy one at all. The victory depended heavily upon Kepa's goalkeeping heroics and Mason Mounts ball awareness and flair.
A back pass done wrong can cause all the troubles for a team. The saying proved right, when Villa committed the early mistake and Mason Mount capitalized on the error with decisive finishing to make it 0-1 for Chelsea. Surely the early goal gave some morale comfort but Aston Villa were far from done, the game had literally just started. They were quick to get the ball into the final third and were counter attacking like they were prime Germany. Just lacked the perfect touch to get past Kepa Arrizabalaga as he stood his ground and saved the whole team, keeping their lead intact at 0-1. The story pretty much was the same in the second half.
Enter 70', Mason Mount gets a free kick from close range. And the Cobham product didn't fail to surprise us, with a beauty of a curler from it. He knew it was going on target just as the ball left his foot. And it curled right into the middle of the goal as Martinez misjudged it and committed to the dive a little bit early to give Chelsea a comfortable 0-2 lead. Chelsea then had only one job for the rest of the 20 minutes and they did it perfectly too, with precise interceptions and passing without any time delay and frustrated both the Villa fans and players. The home fans then took off early for they had seen enough and the chants were only "CHELSEA CHELSEA" after that, pretty much making it feel like being back at the Bridge.
The women's team won their away game with Everton 3-1 as well, paying tribute to Emma Hayes, both the teams definitely made the boss lady proud. Take care Emma !
