Scripted in Heavens as Conor 'corners' Palace
Conor Gallagher scores a screamer as he returns to Selhurst Park to haunt Crystal Palace, making Chelsea grab 3 points in the last minute
What a game of football. Really well played by both teams. Physically Chelsea were outplayed by the eagles as eagles got an early goal and looked pretty strong defensively in the first half. They made every body on the pitch count and Chelsea's midfield was indeed struggling. But the London crowd didn't disappoint as they kept the tempo high for the whole of 90 minutes. For instance, Orise had the ball and the crowd went "SHOOOOOOOOT"(sounded like SUIIII for some reason) and he did comply because it did sound pretty compelling and he got it good as well. Luckily enough, Kepa had the reflexes to stop it. Kepa was very good today, even if a goal was conceded, it was by no means his fault and he managed pretty well when the defence occasionally got very sloppy.Kovacic and Jorginho were struggling to make those crucial tackles and interceptions. It was like they were physically built for this game in particular. Even Reece James was out-bodied many times and that's just how good the eagles were today.
But two brilliant finishes is what it took for Chelsea to grab the 3 points, both of them coming at the ends of each halves.
As expected Chelsea dominated the possession but Crystal Palace got an early lead off an unexpected
chance of scoring. It was a brilliant cross and a brilliant finishing touch for the home team to draw first blood. Then Chelsea started pressing more, although it did occasionally seem like they were going back to their old ways of passing back which enraged the fans. Thiago Silva was threatened with a body and he easily lost the ball, then desperately put out his hands to block the dribbler which got him an yellow. Of course the opponents wanted him to be sent off, but VAR officials got it checked and it was just a yellow, which the commentators felt was the right decision too as he was far from goal for a "CLEAR GOAL SCORING CHANCE DENIED". Soon enough, after a corner was cleared because of a sloppy shot from Aubameyang, Thiago Silva who stayed in the box got a long ball that he headed to Aubameyang, who with his brilliant presence of mind made no delay and took a shot and scored his first goal for Chelsea. That equaliser might be overlooked at the end of the game though, but credit where due, he proved the doubters wrong by taking that chance, he knew where exactly the goal was, didn't need any extra touches and scored a no non-sense goal- Something that Lukaku didn't have. There were several chances in the game but not talking about the last minute winner enough would be injustice. So skipping to 85' on the clock, Conor Gallagher, Armando Broja and Pulisic had just come in. Gallagher was already looking very good on the ball. Gallagher got the ball from left flank and he made the run horizontally and took a shot, much like a goal he scored when he was at Crystal Palace last season, he with no doubt repeated it only this time, it was against Crystal Palace. What a screamer of a goal it was. Fantastic scenes as he wouldn't celebrate a last minute winner! He was a gentleman accepted the goal and got quite emotional as well. Nothing new there but doesn't mean a player should not still be appreciated for it. Brilliant game.
A lot of positives and negatives for both teams to take as Chelsea should move on and concentrate on Europe as they face a tough Competition in AC Milan mid-week.
